We started Families Giving Back because we both wanted to instill the importance of giving back to our children (we both have 4 and 6-year old boys) starting at a young age by volunteering together as a family. However, after searching endlessly for family-friendly volunteer activities, we couldn’t find any that would allow for young children. While we understood the challenges of working with young children, we believed there had to be a way to create volunteer opportunities that would be mutually beneficial to an organization and the volunteer families. We also knew we weren’t alone. Many of our friends with kids also expressed an interest in volunteering as a family. However, they either didn’t know where to look, have the time to research opportunities, or they got discouraged when they couldn’t find anything that would work for kids. So, we decided to create Families Giving Back to fill this need.
Since Spring 2012, we’ve been working with non-profits throughout the Valley to develop volunteer opportunities that families with children of any ages can participate in. We host a variety of different volunteer activities a month, handling all aspects of the event from planning to execution. We also promote a wide variety of family-friendly volunteer opportunities offered from local non-profits. The goal of our website is to serve as a comprehensive resource for family volunteering, providing updated listings of upcoming volunteer opportunities, an easy way to sign up for Families Giving Back hosted events, volunteer ideas that families can do at home, a blog, and more. Whether you are a family with preschoolers or high-schoolers, Families Giving Back provides a variety of great ways to volunteer together.
We hope you find our Families Giving Back website a useful tool for your family to volunteer together and make a positive impact in the community!
